OCHS PRESIDENT

Katrina Scarborough As the President of the Osceola County Historical Society, I would like
to welcome you to the Winter Issue of our History E-magazine. I want
OCHS PRESIDENT to thank all of our members, sponsors, contributors, volunteers, and
Board of Directors, along with a great staff for your continued support
because without you we would not be successful. We have continued to grow
in recent years and this has been largely due to a fabulous staff, so a huge
shout out to each and every one of them for all of the hard work, time, and
effort they put into making the Historical Society what is it today.

Our summer exhibit, Silver Spurs Rodeo: Taking Stock, was a great example of
how our community continues to “take stock” in the event that literally rep-
resents families and their Osceola County heritage.

In reflecting the diversity within Osceola County, our current exhibit is Connect-
ing to Cuba. It explores the relationship between the United States and Cuba
throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Please take time and visit this exhibit at
the Welcome Center and History Museum, it will be on display until January 8,
                     2016.

When you receive this E-magazine, the 24th Annual Pioneer Day will have
already taken place. The staff and Board of Directors puts in a tremendous
amount of time and I anticipate this event to be an even bigger success than
last year. Last year we estimated over 2500 attendees and we expect that num-
ber to grow to over 3000 this year.

Our next big event is Dine with the Departed in March, and I ask that you con-
sider attending. It is a great way to learn about historical figures from Osceola
                     County.

Our goal this year is to increase our membership and the funds obtained
through our fundraising events. So I ask you to reach out to family, friends
and neighbors and ask them to join the Historical Society. Also, we are always
looking for volunteers as we expand our field trip program to Osceola County
schools and receive more visitors to the Welcome Center and History Museum.

If you have not visited the new Pioneer Village, please visit us…..you will not be
                     disappointed!

                     History is Happening!
